Day 13 – Distractions

Back in college, my piano instructor once told me a story about how when he was taking lessons, his instructor would sit and listen to him for awhile, and then do random stuff like try to stuff himself into a cabinet, drop things on the floor, anything he could do to break the focus of my instructor.

He never tried that with me, but that story has always stuck with me.

I find myself to be quite focused. Even my kids climbing on me, pressing down the keys when they were toddlers, dancing behind me, or braiding my hair, never broke my focus. Even the animals tried. These days, it’s just myself and my thoughts, or the random pings from chat clients or phone when I forgot to turn them off, and those are all easily avoidable distractions. I’m just glad no one is trying to fit into my cabinets.
