Is it just me, or do others feel refreshed after taking a brief break from your instrument? I was gone for nine days to the West Coast and had no piano available to me. I got back just after midnight to my ice cold apartment, looked at the piano and went to bed.
Finally got around to playing a bit earlier and everything felt ‘fresh’. My hands seemed to glide over the keys, the pieces that I know came easier than usual. The ‘heavier’ feeling pieces brightened up a bit, like they should be played.
It could be all psychological. It could be I gave myself enough of a break that my muscle memory was able to solidify all the practice I put in before I left. I don’t have the answer. I just know how I feel.
I’m glad to be back. I have a lead on a piano instructor that I’ll pursue. Until then, I’ll keep on practicing and enjoy this refreshed feeling while it lasts.
