Well, I’ve got quite the conundrum, which should have an easy resolution. As much as I want to focus on classical piano, I’ve lately been listening to a lot of jazz, blues, boogie woogie, etc., and I’ve got to scratch that itch.
Luckily, if I can get in with a particular instructor, I will be able to focus on things of my choosing. This would be great because my mind wouldn’t get bored, and what I learn for classical could be applied to another genre.
For instance, Jelly Roll Morton, a virtuoso at ragtime and jazz, studied classical piano at an early age, which can be felt throughout his music. So why not get the best of both worlds?
I am rather excited and if this instructor falls through, I will go about seeking someone else who can provide the same tutelage. Usually, I’m the type of person that just goes with the flow, but I think I’ve finally figured out what I want, after all these years.
