Day 50 – Chopin Polonaise in A Major, Op. 40 No. 1, “Military”

Yeah, ain’t that title a mouthful? That’s the first classical piece I ever memorized. I also believe that was assigned to me by my college instructor. I’ve played it everywhere. Random peoples houses, on demand from friends, and even one time at a Costco just because they were selling upright pianos and I wanted to try them out.

No 'Stairway to Heaven'
‘No Stairway to Heaven’ scene from the movie “Wayne’s World”

And yes, I can play ‘Stairway to Heaven’ on the piano…

Anyhow, that piece is going to be the first one I polish up for whatever potential audition. It’s the first piece I’ve ever felt really proud of learning. My mother used to take my brother and I out shopping for CDs, and I picked up the Arthur Rubinstein Collection at one point, which just fueled my interest. Nocturnes, Polonaise, etc, everything I’ve learned (on my own) was from those CDs. I’m very appreciative of the gift of music from my mother.

And with that, I’ll leave you with Arthur Rubinstein’s recording. Wish me luck. 🙂
