I finally had the chance to get back to playing piano today. I was able to get an hour of practice in easily. Scale work and the Sonatina were the main focus for the entirety of the practice. I did quite a bit of technical studying as well as focused scale work within the Sonatina.
As much as I wanted to continue my focused work, I started getting the feeling of diminished returns the longer I played. The scale work that I had focused on started to get a bit sloppy and inaccurate, so I stopped myself from working any further to prevent mistakes from setting in. It was unfortunate as I could have kept going, but in the long run, I felt I made the appropriate decision. Undoing mistakes that have been committed to muscle memory take longer to resolve than it would have if I just stop while I’m ahead.
